New Digital Cameras for 2007

April 3rd, 2007 | Nikon

Nikon D40X digital cameraIn the digital camera world, Nikon announced the totally unnecessary Nikon D40x, which — after my exhaustive analysis — seems to be nothing more than a 10.2 megapixel version of the Nikon D40 which was released near the end of 2006. Everything else on this DSLR seems to be the same as its predecessor.

Hasn’t anyone told Nikon that megapixels aren’t the only thing a discrimating photographer looks for? The 6+ megapixels provided by the D40 is suffcient to give photo-quality 8×10 enlargements. Unless Nikon feels there is a large market of people who want a low-end DSLR and want to blow up their photos to poster-size, I don’t see the Nikon D40x being a best-seller.

So, if you are looking for a less-expensive or entry-level digital SLR, save yourself $200 and buy the Nikon D40. I own one. I love it.

Since I am such a big fan of Nikon cameras and lenses, I should also mention that the company has completely revamped its Nikon Coolpix compact cameras for 2007. Nikon quality with the ease of point-and-shoot… you can’t beat it.
